The world watched as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, formerly known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, wed in the latter part of May. Family law attorney Brad LaMorgese explains in Texas Lawyer why the royal couple’s wedding served as a reminder of how a premarital agreement is similar to an insurance policy for couples heading down the aisle.
“The theory behind a premarital agreement allows two parties to minimize disputes that may come later, an insurance policy for couples. Instead of a property division and characterization of property based in the Texas Family Code, the parties simply write their own rules in the premarital agreement.”
